National Geographic blogger Andrew Evans has photographed an 'astonishing' all-black king penguin at Fortuna Bay on South Georgia.

On the seeing the photos of the melanistic bird, Dr Allan Baker, University of Toronto ornithologist and professor of Environmental and Evolutionary Studies, described it as 'a one in a zillion kind of mutation ... the animal has lost control of its pigmentation patterns'.
