The 7th Oamaru Penguin Symposium will be held in Oamaru, New Zealand, on Thursday 24th and Friday 25th of June 2010. The meeting will focus on the penguins of New Zealand, Australia and their Sub-Antarctic Islands.

Venue:  The symposium will be held at the Kingsgate Brydone Hotel in Oamaru, the same venue as in previous years. If registrants wish to stay at the Brydone, rooms are available at a discounted rate.

Registration:  The cost is $95 per person to attend, which includes morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea both days. Attendance for one day only will be $50. There will be a Buffet dinner on the Thursday night also at the Brydone Hotel, which will be $35 per person. A field trip visiting both the nearby Yellow-Eyed Penguin colony and the Oamaru Blue Penguin Colony is included. Registration is available online at http://oamaru.penguin.net.nz

Presentations:  Those interested in presenting an oral or poster paper at the symposium will need to submit an abstract to the convenor before the 1st of June. To aid planning, early submission of abstracts will be greatly appreciated. It is hoped that abstracts of all presentations will be available for inclusion in the Symposium abstract book and publication in the NZ Journal of Zoology as symposium proceedings. Although the primary focus is penguins of New Zealand, Australia and their Sub-Antarctic Islands, any penguin-related papers will be considered.

Assistance for students: We are currently investigating the possibility of providing financial assistance for students to participate in the symposium. If you are a full time student and would like assistance, please advise the convenor and indicate what support you have already obtained.

Convenor: Philippa Agnew, Oamaru Blue Penguin Colony, Waterfront Rd, Oamaru, research@penguins.co.nz

Thanks Bruce, I'll let you know nearer the time.

I'd be really keen to hear some feedback from people regarding the Tawaki workshop. I was thinking we need a brief follow-up session at the next symposium, so would like to hear some thoughts from people that were involved.

Cheers,

I still have a few spaces available for people if they would like to present at the penguin symposium next month. Email me if interested: research@penguins.co.nz

Cheers,
